The picture above shows the most bizarre pub in Britain. Popularly known as the Crooked House, it is less a pub and more a tourist attraction. Located on the western rural edge of the Black Country it is one of the most famous pubs in the country.

Originally the pub was called the Glynne Arms and suffered from the effects of coal mining in the 19th century so the entire building subsided to an amazing angle. The pub is owned by Banks’s.

The window frames and doors of the pub have been deliberately altered to enhance the effect. There are two bars, the saloon to the left and lounge to the right. The pub’s interior is like a fairground attraction with doors and windows completely at odds with the floor and wall angles. Pictures on the walls have been placed at angles to give an even more dramatic effect.

The floor in the lounge bar is a bit even but the remaining angles still confuse the mind into what is supposed to be vertical and what is horizontal. Even a teetotaler is likely to stagger at this pub. It is said if after leaving the pub you turn round and the building is perfectly perpendicular. The only downside to the pub is that some of the seating is somewhat craggy and uncomfortable but despite this, the Crooked House is definitely a pub that is worth a visit!
