Pre-Roman Chamber unearthed in Italy

A team of amateur archaeologists (Odysseus Association) led by Andrea Marcocci, an archaeology student at the University of Siena has unearthed a 2,200-year-old tomb in the town of Civitella Paganico, Italy at the time when it was working in the woods of Tuscany (70 miles south of Florence). Said to date back to the second or third century B.C., when nearby Etruscan settlements were being conquered by the Romans, it’s a 6.5-foot long pristine pre-Roman stone chamber that has dozens of urns (full of human ashes). Also, the archaeologists have found bronze coins, rings, small terra-cotta plates, bronze mirrors and a black stone amulet. The small fragments of bones mixed with the ashes will be analyzed to find out the age, sex and possible diseases of the 30 people. Presently the remains are in storage and will be restored so as to be display in a small museum to be built in Civitella Paganico later on. Many other chambers are expected to be buried around the woods and the Odysseus Association plans to apply for a new permit to continue the dig.
