Wandering across Europe you definitely come upon numerous hostels. The cheap, dormitory type accommodation of hostels are a signature for youngsters traveling through Europe on a budget. Hostel life there has been made much of through movies and books.But in America the same importance is not given to hostels. The few hostels there are not very popular, they are not well connected and people don’t know where they are. Independent U.S. hostels have been found to be dull. Many are just old hotels and houses which have been remodeled bearing no resemblance to the typical dormitory type hostels buzzing with travelers. It is difficult to think of backpacking through America because the long distances involved. Absence of cheap transportation facilities restricts budget travel. Hostels having doorways crowded with buzzing, laughing backpackers will always be bookmarks for happy times of carefree youth. Hostel culture needs to be encouraged.
