Italian women, tired of unwanted advances and stares while sunbathing on the beach, now have their own exclusive stretch of sand. Italy has opened its first women-only beach, away from the prying eyes and wandering hands of the country’s notoriously lascivious men. The beach is dubbed Pink Beach and Fausto Ravaglia is the owner.
The opening of the beach was attended by the newly-anointed Lara Croft model Karima Adebibe, promoting the Tomb Raider Anniversary for Eidos Interactive, the video games publisher.
The beach is located in Riccione, an exclusive resort near Rimini on the east coast, and is off-limits to all men. Signs at the entrance to Beach 134 at the resort of Riccione feature a macho-looking man in a bathing costume with a diagonal line across his torso saying ‘No Men’. Children are also forbidden, with mothers encouraged to leave them with their partners or parents.
It offers keep-fit classes, manicures, cookery lessons and even classes in deportment, as well as a cafe offering healthy ladies’ lunches. The fitness instructors are all women, as is the beach DJ. In fact, the only men allowed are a hairdresser and the lifeguard. So, women can now relax, read or doze without men ogling them all the time!
