Cappadocia: A must-see land of wonders!
If you are fervent traveler and your list of travel destinations continue to grow everyday then get ready to add a new destination to your list. Full of strange rock formations, beautiful landscapes and underground cities, the Cappadocia area is one of the most interesting places in the world. Located in Central Anatolia, Turkey Cappadocia is home to a bizarre field of anthill-like cones, unique moon-like landscape, underground cities, cave churches and houses carved in the rocks. There are unusual rock formations that were created as a result of eroding rains and winds. The rock colors are uniquely exquisite and nature erodes them into fantastic shapes, many of them like big mushrooms. The entire Cappadocia area is immeasurable but is estimated to be 250 miles in length by about 150 miles in breadth. Hot-air ballooning is very famous at Cappadocia. During morning hours, you can spot as many as 20 balloons in the sky. Getting there: Turkish Airlines flies from Kennedy Airport to Kayseri but you’ll have to change plane in Istanbul. Car rentals are also available at the airport. If you are unfamiliar with the place, then guided tours are preferable. Stay at: The recently opened Serinn House in Urgup offers cave rooms, glass-walled showers and Wi-Fi. Rooms start $120 a night, including breakfast. The luxurious Anatolian Houses is the other option. Rates start at $300 a night. Eat at: Alaturca in Goreme serves big portions of traditional Anatolian cuisine. Ziggy’s in Urgup is a stylish restaurant that serves fresh salads and pasta. Somine in Urgup with a rooftop terrace, specializes in traditional Turkish cuisine.
